one of my favorite things to do these days is sit outside in the backyard, sipping iced coffee and doodling. The cats and characters are from my personal story ideas. The weird looking kids are just for fun. Since I seem to draw mostly in Photoshop these days it was nice to just take a pen to the paper and doodle. The top painting is CG (obviously lol) I find plague masks interesting so I painted a plague doctor.

I recently had the pleasure of designing a CD cover for Lost Innocence, a really awesome band from the GTA. Had lots of fun working with them and brainstorming ideas for the cover art, it went through a few different versions until we settled on this one. Everyone is pretty happy with the final so I'm glad :)

More experimentation with fantasy realism stuff. Overall I'm pretty happy with how this turned out and I think I learned a new thing or two as well. I dedicate this to my mom for mother's day...not cuz she's a barbarian lol, but her favorite color is red and she's a strong lady. Not so much physically, but mentally.

Also gonna be making another big art post soon, just have to finish one more thing so stay tuned :3

Big Halloween Update!

It's my favorite time of year, Halloween!!! so naturally I have art to go with it!

The first is my yearly Halloween art, probably one of my most creepiest pieces. I dont usually draw ugly stuff so it was fun to do. The second is a watercolor painting, pretty much done for fun. The third is a Jack Skellington pin and a small stuffed pumpkin. I like to sew sometimes so expect some more crafty stuff once in awhile.

It's been awhile since I've posted! So this is a gorgeous thank you card that was made for me from a client I've been doing freelance art for. She runs an online store/blog community that sells lines of rubber stamps. These stamps are then used to make beautiful, one of a kind cards like this one. What's so great is seeing all the different interpretations card makers come up with when coloring the stamps and designing the cards. I've had a blast designing the girl above and look forward to doing more!

bout time I make a new post for 2010, although I cheated. Most of these were started in 2009 and finished off in 2010 :P

2. So I wasn't really going to see Avatar (gasp!) because of all the hype, and when I glanced at the preview it didn't really interest me. Well, I take it all back! AMAZING film. Just...wow. I think I'm probably going to see it again. The Pandora forests at night were breathtaking to look at, and seeing it in 3D really made you feel like you were there. Halloween is coming up soon, and although this isn't my official Halloween pic, I was warming up :P I also wanted to convey what I personally see in moody subject matter..beauty and inspiration. May go back and fix up a few things later on. I also tried something different by making the space outside the tree transparent. Unfortunately because blogger resizes the preview image it doesn't show, and even when you enlarge it it comes up on a white background anyway....kinda sucks but oh well

I've been drawing lots, I guess I've been inspired...or bored haha. No really..I try to draw at least once a day. Music really helps me get inspired, and movies..and comics..as you can see by the 9 and Harley Quinn drawings :P
I also like to work on numerous pieces at a time, so like I'll be working on something in photoshop, then later do something with watercolor because my eyes start to hurt from staring at a computer screen hehe.

Some characters from different times and galaxies :D The spaceman was inspired by Daft Punk's Interstella 5555 and Invader Zim. I always had an interest in aliens and ufos too

I love fashion illustrations so that's pretty self explanatory for the third pic.

The sketchpage is a victorian theme, but the two men in particular are supposed to be dandies, which, as Wikipedia put it "is a man who places particular importance upon physical appearance, refined language, and leisurely hobbies. Historically, especially in late 18th- and early 19th-century Britain." (sounds almost like your common day hipster)

I really like the "scene" look, it's really funky and fun to draw. Still working on defining my digital painting style as well, I like this but it takes too long (especially the hair D:) and I find it only works well with a certain type of art style. Oh well, practice, practice.

I like to make dolls and stuffed toys once in awhile, my grandma was a seamstress so she taught me how to sew, mainly by hand when I was younger. Anyways, I found the pattern for this bunny that I had sewn up but never finished. It just needed stuffing, a face, and some other little details so I quickly put him together and voila! Depresso Bunny is born. Although I bet he wishes he wasnt.

Crafting is something I'd like to get into more after school is done and I have..y'know..time.

Speaking of time...there's something I needed to do...oh yea...A FILM!
Here are some BG color tests. The first one is the original painting, the rest were altered in Photoshop. I think I'll end up going with the greyscale, though I do like some of the colored ones too. What do YOU think?

I did them over the summer in Toronto, some on the train, and some in the Second Cup in the mornings. I did a lot of drawings directly in pen in my small sketchbook then would usually paint them at work when I needed a break, the guys were awesome for that.

I stuck Nikolai from my character sheet in there to see how he would fit. Upon the suggestion of my mentor, I've opted to do watercolor backgrounds instead of digital, since I used a lot of that in my earlier concepts, it seems to work better. There's just something about watercolor that is so organic and grungy.

One more week till my last year at Sheridan starts up, I feel surprisingly calm about it at the moment.

Thursday would also be my last day of interning at 3AM, I'm gonna miss being able to work at an actual studio, as well as enjoying the inspiring atmosphere of Toronto, but at the same time, I'm happy to return to the familiarity of school and friends.

Now, in keeping up with the theme of ends and begginings, here is a waaaay overdue online commission that I finally finished. It is the last in a set of 3.

I'm fairly pleased with how this turned out, I think I improved quite a bit since the last 2, which will not be shown :D I've been practicing my photoshop this summer and feel that I am getting closer to achieving the coloring style I'm going for. Still have a ways to go though, but I look forward to it!

The suit was a bit difficult to render, I prefer flowy fabrics much more.

Nightime Imp

While I was painting this, I was trying to think of what I should call this little dude (ultimately I was inspired by JoJo from Horton Hears a Who)

Finally I settled on calling him a Nightime Imp. Sometimes late at night I'll look outside my window which faces our backyard, and it'll be so still and quiet except for the crickets. I always get this feeling that there's something outside, despite there being no one out there. No one that I can see, anyway :D

So that's how Nightime Imp came to be.

Something akin to a movie poster, "The Bloodening" keeps popping into my head for a film name, but I think that was a fictional horror movie in The Simpsons lol..(or was it The Deadening?)

My computer colored pics looked horrid on a Laptop or LCD monitor. They're always much darker on mine but that's cuz I still use one of those old school, non-flat monitors. Anyone know how to fix it so that they dont look bad on LCD monitors?

I think I'll try to make one of these each month, some
are cafe sketches, others aren't.

Huh. It's been awhile.. rememeber that song from Staind? ah memories.. o.O

Anyway, I come bearing art! Between having a busy and kickass time interning at 3AM and exploring the Toronto streets, I've still managed to get some stuff done for fun. Still would hope to be drawing a bit more on my spare time, but besides these few finished pieces, the rest are just quick sketches.

Lets get started shall we...

Wanted to try painting something slightly more realistic. I call this piece "fallen angel with a migraine" There is stuff here that needs fixing, but instead I've just started something new..its more fun that way.

I've started to get into Deathnote. Its a smarter anime and the animation is quite good. I like L. He's just to awesome for words. I think this style kind suits his character.

I dont think I'm ever gonna quit drawing anime completely. It's just been to much of an influence as explained in my previous post.

I like pierrots and harlequins..basically they're more artsy and cooler than your average clown (less creepy too) This is my take on them.

A quick dress design..if I wasn't doing animation, I probably would have persued fashion design. Fashion art is so wild. The proportions are so exaggerated, this is tame by their standards!

The last are some assorted scribbles. Most were done in under 5 minutes, and some were based off people I've seen around Toronto. Once the weather starts to get warm, I'm gonna start cafe sketching so stay tuned!

As a kid, I always loved to draw, but when Sailor Moon came out, that's when I really started to realize that I wanted to do art/animation as a career. I would sit and copy the poses from those Sailor Moon card stickers and taught myself how to draw all the Sailor Scouts.

It's also pretty well known that the older you get, the more nostalgic you tend to become and recently I started watching Sailor Moon again, enjoying the overall dorkiness of it, but also remembering how much of an impact the series had on me and my art. This pic is pretty much my tribute to the character that started it all :D

I hope the time off is treating yous well.

So I want to give this 100 characters for 100 days challenge a try, my only issue is that even though I have enough art, not all of it is finished and that was one of the requirements (i think?)

Well, here's what I have so far, enjoy!

Drake is a dorky goth kid that all the kids throw
erasers at. What they dont know is that Drake is
actually a necromancer and can control the dead. He
has his revenge by making hordes of skeletons dance outside
the windows of all the kids who tease him, leaving them
unable to get to sleep for the entire night.
Revenge never tasted so sweet!

Jolie BonBon is a cabaret dancer at the Moulin Splooge
(not to be confused with the Moulin Rouge) She enjoys
drinking, smoking and robbing innocent men of
their well deserved inheritances.

Doyle's lifelong dream is to become a musician.
Unfortunately his eyesight is really bad and
he keeps mixing up his instruments. Poor Doyle.

Seems like you cant escape the drudgery of work, even
after you're dead. Henry is an angel who works as a halo
polisher and is really unsatisfied with his job.
This leads him to become online friends with a demon girl
named Alice, who works an even worse job: manager at
Hell's local McDonalds.

Fun with Color!

I enjoy coloring and would like to get better at it, both digitally and traditionally, so here are 2 recent pics. Any suggestions or advice would be just dandy.

did this first one today, it was pretty quick. I tried to encorporate more hard and soft edges, as well as figure out skin tone a bit more, skin is the toughest thing to really get a hang of color wise me thinks.

i like shading clavicles for some reason..

second is watercolor on animation paper, I strongly advise against this, but in this case I think it kinda works

..because I can stay up late at obscene hours in the morning and not have to worry about getting up the next day for school. Yea, I'm really glad that first semester is over, t'was pretty brutal.

Anywho...onto the art..I dont really have much I want to show at the moment..but for the meantime here is an anime-esque Tinkerbell that I started coloring during the school year but finished it now. I think I'm gonna touch up the background sometime since it was rushed and I'm not completely satisfied with it.
Next is robots. Everyone loves robots. If you dont then you should be ashamed of yourself.

Oh yes..expect a Christmas pic soon..I've been feeling quite Christmasy as of late..I suspect its because I'm so happy that we're on break :D

just finished my essay for world lit..time to celebrate with a post!

want to color this one reeeeally badly..but then theres..y'know..school.

group film stuff arranged all pretty-like

bought this fancy "manga paper" from the bookstore because it was really smooth and I wanted to see how markers would blend on it, they blend nicely but it's not that big a difference from using animation paper.

Royal Winter Fair and miscellaneous

Despite getting progressively sicker throughout the day, I managed to get a few okay drawings at the fair this year. My favourite animals there where the Alpacas (they look like Llamas) There were 2 in a pen and the white one whose name was Thadius kept coming over to me, the lady who owns them said that he liked me, most likely because he could sense that I was calm unlike most of the kids there..Alpacas are uber cute, I want one XP
